The City of Newport News Parks, Recreation & Tourism Department will present the “4th of July Stars in the Sky” on Thursday, July 4, 2019 at Victory Landing Park (50 25th St.). The event begins at 7:00 p.m. with free children’s inflatables (moon bounces, obstacle courses), free face painting, the Tomcats Dixieland Band (performing near the Newport News Victory Arch) and strolling entertainment. Food vendors will be on site selling a variety of items including funnel cakes, hot dogs, hamburgers and seafood. Live music will be provided by the USAF Heritage of America Band Full Spectrum from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Free light-up give-a-way items will be given out during the event (while supplies last). A spectacular fireworks show by the internationally award winning fireworks company Pyrotecnico, will be presented by Newport News Shipbuilding, a Division of Huntington-Ingalls Industries, and will light up the sky over the James River at 9:30 p.m.

Full Spectrum consists of six active-duty musicians, who recently returned from a 4-month deployment to Southeast Asia. The group, part of the USAF Heritage of America Band, regularly performs throughout a 15-state region, including the Northeast, the Mid-Atlantic and Carolinas. Activated in 1941, The United States Air Force Heritage of America Band has a rich history of inspiring public patriotism and enhancing esprit de corps among all the US military service branches. These world-class musicians are stationed at Joint Base Langley-Eustis in Hampton, Virginia. They present over 300 events annually for the general public and in support of Airman morale and protocol events. The USAF Heritage of America Band remains at the forefront of communicating Air Force core values and preserving and enriching America's military and musical heritage into the 21st century.
